National Love Your Hair Day Interview with Cindy Soung

National Love Your Hair Day Interview with Cindy SoungOctober 10th is right around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate National Love Your Hair Day! This week we spoke with stylist Cindy Soung. Cindy specializes in balayage, metallic, vivids, naturally curly hair and more!

After training and working in Washington, D.C.for 6 years, she moved back to Seattle and was able to open her salon with the help of Instagram in just one year. She has a passion for education, which she shares on her YouTube channel. There she creates tutorials and advice videos for the hair community. Check out some of her insights below.

It's a 10: How did you get into styling hair? What were some of the major challenges you had to overcome?

Cindy Soung: I got into hair because I could never get my hair done the way I wanted. Having Asian hair is a struggle because most aren’t experienced in doing it. I am an all-inclusive salon because I love all hair types. I love straight hair, curly hair, black hair, blonde hair, you name it! One of the biggest challenges is overcoming your own insecurities. We are our own worst critic and always feel like we could have done something differently even if it’s perfect. I learned that being confident in yourself and tooting your own horn is not a bad thing.

It's a 10: What do you love most about your hair?

CS: I love that I can use it to express myself!

It's a 10: Who is your hair icon?

CS: Khloe Kardashian. I love that she is naturally dark but can pull off any shade of hair.

It's a 10: Who are some people who inspire you?

CS: I’m blessed to say that I have some pretty talented friends who inspire me all the time! @guy_tang@namnguyenhair@hairbypam@jayrua_glam@dearmiju@hair.video@styleartists. They keep me passionate and always there to lend an ear when I’m in need.

It's a 10: What's a simple, nice thing that gives you a lift when you are having a bad day?

CS: My favorite thing to do when having a bad day is coming home and hug my cats. They are always there to comfort and love me. <3

It's a 10: What advice can you give someone who doesn’t love their hair?

CS: Find a stylist who understands you and can help you find a look that is perfect for you. It’s so easy to use Instagram as a tool to find inspiration or even your next hairstylist.
